Jeronimo De Carranza “On the Philosophy of Arms and its Skill, and Christian Offense and Defense” is a good example of arms. You also had the transcendental values of The Gentleman ( see Baldassare Castiglione The Book of the Courtier). Who was always armed. And held to Gentleman standards. You also had a Catholic Sanctioned dueling culture for personal insults. Such a cowardice, infidelity, lying, cheating etc Sometimes a Judicial Duel was enacted for harsher crimes.
